Hi All!
In the waning days of World War II my great aunt packed up her car and her two very young boys and drove from San Francisco to Georgia (though it could have been Mississippi or as my mother put it "I don't know, somewhere in the South!" This is a very typical Californian response, for those of you not from the left coast. The reason behind this is that geography is not a strong point in our California educational system - of course unless you are Coach Lee's class! But more on this later...). I had been hearing this story for most of my life and I have always wanted to drive across the country as well, and I figured if Tant Dot could do this in 1945 with two screaming children and a car that had a top speed of 50, then this was most assuredly a doable attempt for me. I think this might also really appeal to me because I do not have to get on a plane and there is no medication involved!
This idea to drive Back East had been tossed around on several occasions but had never materialized. I had hoped to do this trip with a navigator but due to schedules and a certain trip to Disneyland it is just me on this journey.
The plan is to travel from San Francisco to Boston over the course of the next ten days. With the help of my dear friends Erin and Genesta the blog has been christened "K-Fry's Follies" because usually I can get a good story from my adventures and I know my friends enjoy when I often star in these "only K-Fry" moments! I will be continuing the blog throughout the summer before returning to California in early August.
So where do we stand at 9:38 pm on the day before I leave...well I have wash in the washer and clothes on my bed and nothing in my suitcase - I know Genesta is having flashbacks to England right now and all I have to say is COZY SUIT! (Long story short: we were late for a plane because of me and we ended up in first class - the experience really did validate my approach to life - much to the consternation of many around me!) I am sitting here typing on my blog watching a movie with Mom and thinking about all the time I have in the morning to pack and get on my way to Las Vegas. I have done the most important things... I have my places to stay, mostly...thank you to my dear friends who are opening their homes to a wandering Californian...I have also downloaded some good apps for my iPhone like AAA, Trapster, Gas Buddy and the most important the In-and-Out app that will let me animal style it tomorrow and on the way to Albuquerque! I have also got all the books I need and my school supplies ready. But there is plenty of time in the morning to finish everything else! :) You may be thinking why wasn't this started earlier and the answer is World Cup and bottomless Bellinis!
But anyway...I am off to change the wash and try and accomplish a few things before getting a good nights sleep. I hope you enjoy my blog this summer!!!
Cheers,
K-Fry
